I'm really tempted to use the Frodo meme here "It's over, it's done." Alas, this is still only the beginning. The public release only means there's that many more eyes that will be on our game, and thus that much more work to do to try to keep everyone happy and playing.
In any event, here it is! 18+ months worth of work, and another 6-12 to go, probably. I think I've actually gotten to the point where I'm numb from the anxiety and possibly shock. The game has done so well, but here comes the true test. I truly hope it's successful enough that I can keep Coldcore Studios running for a long time to come, with many new and exciting games!
Check out the game on Kongregate here:
The game has been approved for release. I'm going to explode from anticipation! Aside from some minor errors that I fixed quickly, the tester(s) didn't find anything amiss. They also approved us for entry into the K+ Beta program, which is exceptionally good news. I have no idea how exclusive this program is, but there are a mere ~12 games in the program, compared to the hundreds of thousands open to the general public, so I choose to think our game is just that awesome.
The release date has been set for Monday - it would be sooner, but they don't work on the weekends, and they wanted to be available in case something happens. 2.5 more days...I don't know how I'll make it. Wish us luck!
It just got real.
It's done. The game is finally ready for release. So many times in the past 8-12 months, I genuinely thought we were close to this point. I was starting to wonder if this day would ever come, but here it is. I've already sent off the email to Kongregate asking for their QA testing and approval, so there's no backing out now.
It's been all of 10 minutes since the email was sent and already I'm drowning in anticipation. It could be a week or more before it gets the green light to be published... I don't know how I'm going to survive!
I'll be sure to update this page when the game is officially released. Until then, I think I'm going to go meditate or something.
I'd make a better demon than rebel.
I'm saved the bosses for last, because I knew the balance would take FOREVER to get right, though I'm now just winging it slightly, and intend to rely heavily on beta testers to fine-tune everything. I'm having a lot of fun this way, actually; the Lieutenants progressively get harder, as you'd expect, but the Generals... I laugh every time I put their strength values in, imagining the frustration people will have upon fighting them for the first time. Demon material, I tell ya.
Anyway, as the first sentence implies, this IS the last part of the coding. I will be finished today, then it's just waiting on a couple of design fixes, and possibly some writing (which may wait until after I submit the game for acceptance/testing), and we're done! I'm so excited I can't possibly wait! I hope everyone enjoys the game enough so I can make bigger and better games with Coldcore for a long time.
