Everyone! I'm sorry for the - extremely - large delay between posts. This is partly because we've kept our frequent alpha testers personally updated with new builds, and partly because I didn't see enough difference in the game to be worth mentioning. The game has actually come a long way since the first alpha release, but it's hard for me to see since I've been building it myself day-by-day.
Anyway, we're about 2 weeks out from our official open beta launch! I have high hopes (and tempered expectations) that we'll get a lot of testers and quality responses. I think the beta is going to be a solid success, regardless. However, I am worried about what comes after. Bug-fixing and the like is pretty simple, but getting everything else just right is going to take a lot of effort. Our team is getting first-hand experience with the Pareto principle, also called the 80/20 rule, where the remaining 20% of product is taking 80% of the effort, and let me tell you: it sucks! I really am annoyed by this rule - we fully expected to have the beta ready 1-2 months after alpha release. It's not been 4 months! Insane!
I hope everyone loves the beta when it comes out - while I learned a ton during this project, and I would never call it a failure, I still would like tons of people to enjoy the game that took nearly a year to create. Thanks for the support, and I'll be sure to update more and more frequently now that the final stretch is upon us!
p.s. If you're reading this and you want to help test the game, send us a message, and we'll set you up with a link to our alpha release page (it's changed locations).
